About the Con Employees’ Benevolent Fund

Established in 2011, the purpose of the Con Employees’ Benevolent Society, is to support residents of the NWT pursuing a trade or professional career in the mining industry or an industry related to mining.

Application process

Individuals interested in applying must create a profile on our scholarship application portal. Once your profile is created, you will need to complete our eligibility quiz and then submit a scholarship application to the Con Employees’ Benevolent Fund.

Applications will be made available during our scholarship intake season, in April/May 2024.

Established in 2011 by the Con Employees’ Benevolent Society, this Fund was established to assist individuals pursuing a trade or professional career in the mining industry or an industry related to mining.

In order to be eligible to apply for the Con Employees’ Benevolent Fund, you must:

  • Be a high school graduate resident in Yellowknife.
  • Demonstrate an intent to pursue a trade or professional career in the mining industry or an industry related to mining, for example, millwright, geo-technical engineer, environmental studies, geology or heavy equipment operator.

The scholarship may be awarded more than once to the same applicant, but not more than twice to the same applicant within any consecutive five year period.

All of our scholarship application forms and additional materials need to be submitted on our scholarship application portal. 

  • You will complete a questionnaire describing your involvement or interest in a trade or professional career in the mining industry; and how the scholarship will further your career or academic goals.
  • You will provide the email address of a reference to describe your academic achievement. Your reference can be a teacher, mentor, employer, etc. We will email your reference a recommendation form to fill out.
  • Proof of acceptance / enrolment at an accredited trade school, college, or university, or with the NWT Apprenticeship Board.

You must be an eligible resident to apply for a scholarship.
As such, YKCF requires you to make a residency declaration and have a witness sign off.
However, you do not need to print out any forms!
Each residency declaration is a one-click question embedded within the application process.
You just need to provide the email address of your residency witness, and they will be emailed directly.

You can only apply through our online application portal. In 2024, the application portal opens on April 2nd.

Mailed and emailed applications will not be accepted barring extreme circumstances.
