Robert and his wife Sharon first came to Yellowknife in 1971 as teachers for the Yellowknife Catholic Schools. They have three children and two grandchildren. Two of their daughters live and work in Yellowknife and a third daughter lives and works in Tanzania. Robert is a registered psychologist (NWT, Nunavut, Alberta) and is a qualified therapist, as well as a trained and experienced educational psychologist and neuropsychologist. He has an active private practice, called Northern Psychological Services
Robert has been a boat mechanic for many years. He holds a specialty certification in electronic analysis of marine inboard and outboard engines. He has a successful marine business called Omega Marine.
Robert has been active locally, territorially and nationally on a number of volunteer boards and agencies such as the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada (Former President), Family Mediation (former director), Association of Psychologists of the NWT (current president), Council of Professional Associations of Psychologists of Canada (current treasurer). He is a Director representing the NWT Psychologists on the Practice Directorate for Psychologists Canadian Psychologists Association. He was for many years an active member of the executive of the Yellowknife Oldtimers Hockey Association. He has been on the Board of the Yellowknife Community Foundation since 2010. (Current Secretary and Chairperson of the Grant Committee).
Robert enjoys activities with his grandchildren and observing their growth in music and sports. As for personal recreation, Robert enjoys hockey, swimming, snowmobiling and fishing.
