About the Randy McBride Hockey Project Fund

Established in 2011, the purpose of the Randy McBride Hockey Project Fund is to support NWT youth pursuing advanced levels of hockey not available in the Northwest Territories at a secondary or post-secondary education institution.

Application process

Individuals interested in applying must create a profile on our scholarship application portal. Once your profile is created, you will need to complete our eligibility quiz and then submit a scholarship application to the Randy McBride Hockey Project Fund.

Applications will be made available during our scholarship intake season, in April/May 2024.

Established in 2011 to recognize Randy McBride’s long standing contribution to hockey.

Please note that award amounts vary year by year.

In order to be eligible to apply for the Randy McBride Hockey Project Fund, you must be:

  • A resident of the Northwest Territories for at least 5 years whose families will continue to reside in the NWT while the applicant pursues advanced hockey and education outside the NWT.
  • Have a financial need to meet the costs associated with pursuing advance levels of hockey that are not available in the NWT.
  • Be enrolled in a school, college or University.
  • Pursuing hockey programs equivalent to Midget AA or AAA, Junior A (Tier 1 or 2) or a college or university hockey program.

All of our scholarship application forms and additional materials need to be submitted on our scholarship application portal.

  • You will complete a questionnaire describing the virtues you exhibit in pursuing advanced hockey opportunities, how the scholarship will contribute to you achieving your goals. 
  • You will provide the email address of your coach as a reference attesting to your involvement in hockey and the virtues you exhibit, as described in the questionnaire. We will email your reference a recommendation form to fill out.
  • Proof of rostership on a hockey team at the Midget AA, AAA, Junior A, or college level.

You must be an eligible resident to apply for a scholarship.
As such, YKCF requires you to make a residency declaration and have a witness sign off.
However, you do not need to print out any forms!
Each residency declaration is a one-click question embedded within the application process.
You just need to provide the email address of your residency witness, and they will be emailed directly.

You can only apply through our online application portal. In 2024, the application portal opens on April 2nd.
