New community fund for Canada’s 150th builds community and encourages participation for the sesquicentennial

A new collaboration for Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation is bringing people and places together to build community and activate a groundswell of local initiatives, activities, and events.

The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th is a collaboration led by Community Foundations of Canada and the national network of 191 community foundations, including the Yellowknife Community Foundation, with the support of the Government of Canada and leaders from coast to coast to coast.

The purpose of the Canada 150 fund is to engage Canadians from all walks of life in a wide range of local projects that build community, inspire a deeper understanding of Canada, and encourage participation in a wide range of initiatives that mark Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The Fund will be responsive to local priorities and will be accessible to all Canadians, including indigenous peoples, youth, groups that reflect our cultural diversity, and official language minority groups.

YCF is an active partner with Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) to award Canada 150 grants. YCF is currently accepting applications. The deadline for applications for the second phase of the YCF Canada 150 Fund is November 30, 2016. Grants from $100.00 to $15000.00.  Grants from $100.00 to $15000.00 are available. Organizations must match the grant that they receive in cash or through in-kind services. (Please refer to the Guidelines for details and apply online through the Community Foundations of Canada website at: http://communityfoundations.ca/cfc150/about-the-fund/.

About the Yellowknife Community Foundation

The Yellowknife Community Foundation (YCF) was formed in 1993 to provide interested individuals and organizations with a means of supporting projects in our community for the enduring future. The Foundation is not singularly dedicated to any specific area of support. It embodies a simple concept – that people working together can make a difference.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Yellowknife, and the surrounding area by: identifying and addressing current and anticipated community needs; and, raising, managing, and distributing investment income from donated funds to meet those needs.
