Helmets for Hardy (Closed)

About Helmets for Hardy

Helmets for Hardy was created in July 2012 in memory of Josh Hardy, who lost his life at age 18 due to a head injury. The organization supported helmet-use for biking, skateboarding, and other self-propelled vehicles. Every summer, the organization held a helmet giveaway for children who could not afford them.

In 2014, a Fund was established with the Yellowknife Community Foundation to further facilitate the organization’s aims.

In May 2024, Helmets for Hardy held its last giveaway event. Over 2000 helmets have been distributed through those twelve years, and more than $18,000 in funds raised.

We want to thank Jackie and Ed Hardy for their passionate work, and the members of our community for their ardent support

The Yellowknife Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it is now affiliated with Helmets for Hardy, a non-profit organization to support helmet use for biking, skate boarding and other activities to prevent head injuries.

“Helmets for Hardy was created in July 2012, when Josh Hardy, age 18 lost his life due to a head injury. He was long-boarding without a helmet. We believe that he would still be here today if he had been wearing his helmet. Funds being raised are being used to purchase helmets for children who cannot afford them.”
