Calling for Committee Members! Student Award review Committee (SARC)

The Yellowknife Community Foundation is seeking volunteers from across the NWT to become members of our Student Award Review Committee. Evaluators chosen will be tasked with working alongside our Board and Staff to evaluate approximately 20-35 student award applications from NWT residents.

Our student application intake period spans from April 2nd to May 31st, 2024. Evaluators will be sent scholarships to review by June 4th, and will have until June 27th to complete their reviews. Therefore, the opportunity involves up to 10 hours of volunteer commitment in the month of June 2024.

Once chosen to join the committee, Evaluators will have an orientation session explaining our software program to review scholarship applications, and other important details.

Executive Director

The Yellowknife Community Foundation is looking for enthusiastic self-starter who is passionate about community engagement and making a difference in communities in the NWT. If you have a keen appetite for learning and being a leader in philanthropic activities, networking and partnering with local and national charitable and non-profit organizations, we would love to meet you! 

Scope of Position: Reporting to the Board of Directors through the Board Chair, the Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day management, execution, organization, and administration of all activities of the Foundation. The Executive Director also serves as the primary contact for the Foundation. 

Key functional areas include:

  • Governance, Board Administration and Support, 
  • Financial and Legal
  • Fund and Donor Development and Support
  • Grant and Scholarship Administration
  • Marketing, Public Relations and Communications
  • Strategic Planning, Vision Development and Partnerships
  • Management and Administration

A degree or diploma in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business, Social Science (or other related studies) and 5 years of experience in the non-profit field is required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. 

Previous experience includes project management; working with volunteers; working with donors, sponsors and partners; fund raising; marketing and public relations; book-keeping and budget management; and managing staff/volunteers. 

Knowledge of the operation of non-profit organizations, relevant legislation and regulations, as well as an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles are desirable assets. 

Required skills include planning, organizing and management skills; above average oral and written communication and presentation skills; strong problem solving and decision-making abilities; creativity and initiative; research and analytical skills; the ability to develop policies and procedures; and strong computer skills. Desirable personal characteristics include compassion, sensitivity, and cultural awareness. 

This is a full-time, indeterminate position (37.5 hours per week). 

Location: Yellowknife, NT  

Salary: Ranges from $90,500 per year – $107,153 per year, based on qualifications and experience.
