About the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund
Established in 2015, the purpose of the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund is to:
- Provide a scholarship for Yellowknife residents pursuing post-secondary education in any field
- To support organizations in the Yellowknife area conducting community initiatives and programming
Each year, the Fund will switch from providing a grant to an organization or a scholarship to an individual. In 2023, the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund will provide a grant to an organization in the Yellowknife area. In 2024, the Fund will provide a scholarship to a Yellowknife resident.
Application process
For the grant option of the Fund, we accept applications from charitable organizations that have a valid charitable number from Canada Revenue Agency. If you are a non-profit organization that does not have a registered charitable number, you may still be able to apply. Please call our office to discuss +1-867-446-4527.
To check that your charitable number is in good standing, visit Canada Revenue Agency or call 1-800-267-2384.
Organizations interested in applying must create an organizational profile on our application portal. Once your profile is created, you can submit an application to the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund.
For the scholarship option of the Fund, we accept applications from Yellowknife residents of at least 12-consecutive months. Individuals interested in applying must create a profile on our scholarship portal.
In 2024, the Fund will follow the scholarship option.

Scholarship Option (Available in 2024)
The purpose of the scholarship option of the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund is to support Yellowknife residents pursuing post-secondary studies in any field.

Please note that award amounts vary year by year.
The scholarship option of the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund is available to residents of Yellowknife who have lived in Yellowknife for 12 consecutive months prior to applying.
Applicants must be pursuing post-secondary studies in any field.
A preference will be given to applicants pursuing trades or 2-year college diplomas.
All of our scholarship applications forms and additional materials need to be submitted on our scholarship application portal.
For students that are applying to the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund, here are some things that you will be including in your application:
- You will complete a questionnaire describing what field you are involved in, how this scholarship will help you achieve our goals, and if applicable, how you have demonstrated sportsmanship
- You will provide the email address of a reference to support your application. Your reference can be a teacher, coach, instructor, etc. We will email your reference a recommendation form to fill out.
You must be an eligible resident to apply for a scholarship.
As such, YKCF requires you to make a residency declaration and have a witness sign off.
However, you do not need to print out any forms!
Each residency declaration is a one-click question embedded within the application process.
You just need to provide the email address of your residency witness, and they will be emailed directly.
You can only apply through our online application portal. In 2024, the application portal opens on April 2nd.

Grant Option (Disbursed in 2023)
The purpose of the grant option for the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund is support organization conducting community initiatives and programming in the Yellowknife area.
Through the grant option of the Fund, The Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund is open to charitable organizations (organizations with a registered charitable number) conducting activities in the Yellowknife area.
If you are a non-profit organization that does not have a registered charitable number, you may still be able to apply. Please call our office to discuss +1-867-446-4527.

Grants from the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund are designed to complement new and/or established programming and/or community-based activities in the Yellowknife area.
Grant applications can be submitted to the Luke Charpentier Memorial Fund in 2025.
Applications for our 2023 intake our now closed.
Applications are reviewed by our Grants Committee.
