Yellowknife Community Foundation and Rio Tinto Diavik Diamond Mine Announce Expanded Scholarships for Women

The Yellowknife Community Foundation and Rio Tinto Diavik Diamond Mine are pleased to announce the expansion of the Rio Tinto Diavik Diamond Mine Community Scholarship to include new support for women pursuing education opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Originally established in 2013, this Fund was established to assist individuals pursuing a career in mining or resource development. Winter Bailey of Rio Tinto Diavik Diamond Mines said, “We are committed to developing employment opportunities for women in the mineral industry and are thrilled to support women participating in STEM education”.

Bronwyn Watters, President of the Yellowknife Community Foundation said, “The expansion of this scholarship fund to include support for women in STEM programs is a great step forward in encouraging women to seek career opportunities in non-traditional occupations and expand their leadership roles in related industries.”

Applications for the Rio Tinto Diavik Diamond Mine Community Scholarships begin in March of 2019. Individuals seeking scholarships are encouraged to go to the Foundation’s website to review the application process.

The Yellowknife Community Foundation was formed in 1993 to provide interested individuals and organizations with a means of supporting projects in our community for the enduring future. The Foundation is not singularly dedicated to any specific area of support. It embodies a simple concept – that people working together can make a difference.
