The Yellowknife Community Foundation was started in 1993 to give people and organizations a way to support local projects for the long term. Anyone can donate or create a fund that we invest as an endowment, and give away the investment income every year. We support many people and projects in the NWT each year through student awards and grants. 

We provide student awards to outstanding applicants to help relieve their financial needs and set up grants to assist local organisations that want to try out something new. We strive to provide clarity to fund holders and donors in terms of where money is being allocated to by advancing the welfare needs of impoverished groups and sharing an annual report and posting regular updates on the status of our grants.

We carry out these grants to address community needs such as: advancing the welfare needs of impoverished groups; promote Arts and Culture; Ssports and Recreation; Community Development; Advance or post-secondary education; Advancing the oversight of medical services; Any other charitable organisations; and Community Initiatives
