TheYellowknife Community Foundation, along with Rob Butler and Tannis Hushagen,will be announcing the establishment of a new scholarship, the Butler-HushagenHealth Education Fund, on Saturday, February 8 at the Foundation’s Annualfundraising gala. The scholarship will be open to students from the NorthwestTerritories, Nunavut and Yukon pursuing a post-secondary education in a healthrelated field. “We came to Yellowknife for two years in 1981 and stayed for more than two decades,” said Rob Butler. “It was our home for many years and continues to be a big part of our lives; a piece of our hearts will always remain in the North. This scholarship is an opportunity for us to give back to a community that has been so good to us as individuals and a family. ” Tannis Hushagen continues “As a graduate of the Registered Nursing Program at Aurora College, I have seen the benefits that supporting northern students can have. This was a contributing factor to inspire us to set up a fund to assist Northerners striving to help others by furthering their education in health related fields.” Robin Greig, President of the Yellowknife Community Foundation added “We are so very pleased that Rob and Tannis chose the Yellowknife Community Foundation as a way to give back to the North. This new scholarship will be an important contribution to the success of many students over many years to come.” Scholarshipapplications will be accepted for the Butler-Hushagen Health Education Fundbeginning in March. The Yellowknife Community Foundation was formed in 1993 to provide interested individuals and organizations with a means of supporting projects in our community for the enduring future.
