Fund History

Patricia (Pat) McMahon grew up in Northern Canada and resided in Yellowknife from 1968 until her untimely death in 2008. As a Councillor of the City of Yellowknife for seven years, Pat served on all of the Council committees and as a volunteer for many community organizations. She was elected Mayor of the City of Yellowknife for three terms, serving from 1987 to 1994. Her personal commitment to Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories resulted in appointments to many local, regional, territorial, national and international committees and organizations over the years including President of both the Northwest Territories Association of Municipalities, and the Livable Winter Cities Association. In 1983, Pat was presented with the NWT Tourism Award by the Government of the Northwest Territories, and in 1992 she received the Commemorative Medal of Canada 125 from the Commissioner of the NWT on behalf of the Governor General.
